Since Newcastle United’s takeover, there’s not only been a pile of rumours regarding the signing of new players and manager, but also about a new director of football as well.
Ajax boss Marc Overmars has been pointed out as one of the favourite men for that position, and now we get an interesting response from Amsterdam about those claims.
In a column on ED, Hugo Borst writes that the ‘greatest danger’ for Ajax is now the director’s departure from the club.
The story starts pointing out the great start of season that the Dutch side is having, on top of Eredivisie’s table and of their Champions League group, with the good form all credited to Marc Overmars and manager Erik Ten Hag.
Borst then claims that Overmars ‘talks to Newcastle United’, hinting something could already be going on between the Magpies and the former Arsenal footballer.
He then tells his readers to ‘imagine’ if the director really moves to the Premier League side, as this could lead to a domino effect of other transfers to St. James’ Park in the next couple of years.
“Then of course he brings in Erik ten Hag. And Gravenberch. And Timber, of course. Then Ajax has to start all over again”, says the story.
