Newcastle United are ‘in pole position’ to sign midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham this summer.
That’s according to Media Foot, who say Villarreal are ‘still pushing’ to try and get a deal over the line as well.
They report that the Frenchman wants to give himself every chance of being in France’s World Cup squad this winter and thus wants to leave London, where he is not in his manager’s plans.
Several sides are keen on a deal and according to their information, it is Newcastle ‘who are the most hot’ on him.
They want to add something to their midfield and the 25-year-old’s experience is something that ‘pleases’ them.
They’re willing to pay to do so as well, with Daniel Levy and co looking to secure ‘at least €50m’ after paying €65m to sign the Frenchman from Lyon.
Whether Newcastle are willing to go that high isn’t clear but they are keen and currently leading the race for the Frenchman.
Villarreal are also in the picture and have ‘ambition’ to get a deal over the line but it is the Magpies who are out in front as things stand.
