Ever since it became clear that Marcus Thuram would be leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer at the end of the season, Newcastle United have been linked.
That’s because there’s no denying the Frenchman would help Eddie Howe’s team, and Gazzetta dello Sport have the latest on the situation, as it also involves Inter Milan.
The Italian newspaper look at the situation, and explain there is currently a battle between various clubs, including Bayern Munich being in the lead in Germany and Newcastle being in ‘pole position’ over in England.
Inter, down their end, are said to have ‘signed up for the race in time’, deciding to use their intelligence by flying out to Qatar to meet with his agents to present their project going forward for the Gladbach star.
They have offered him a ‘multi-year contract worth €5m + bonuses per season’, which we all know Newcastle could better if they so wanted.
Down his end, Thuram ‘reflects’ and has ‘made it known that he won’t make a decision until April’, leaving Inter and other clubs who may have come forward to hope that he chooses them.
Whether Newcastle have placed a contract in front of him isn’t said, but if they are interested, it would be in their best interest to do so sooner rather than later.
