Despite performing very well over the past two seasons, there hasn’t been *that* much interest in Jonathan Ikoné from the Premier League.
A few days ago, we covered a story from Le10 Sport claiming that Chelsea had ‘clearly positioned themselves’ for the Lille player, and apart from suggestions Manchester United and Everton were also ‘following’ him, it’s been relatively quiet.
That could all change this summer, however, as Newcastle United, Tottenham and the aforementioned Blues have all ‘asked for information’ about the France international’s future.
L’Equipe are the ones reporting it on Tuesday as they look at the player’s future in the coming months amid strong speculation of a Victor Osimhen exit.
It’s believed Ikoné is ‘looking for better wage conditions’, thus hinting he would be willing to go elsewhere to get them.
Regardless of what happens with Newcastle’s takeover, the player would most likely find a better salary at St James’ Park, with that being a near certainty if he moved to Spurs or Chelsea.
There’s no indication as to what kind of price Lille would be looking for, but if their decision to turn down €70m from Napoli in 2018 is anything to go by, it won’t be for a small fee.
With that in mind, perhaps Ikoné could only become a realistic transfer for Newcastle should the takeover get completed.
Either that or the Magpies sell big in order to compete with the London big boys.
