Newcastle United allowed Matz Sels join Anderlecht on a season-long loan deal last summer.

According to Belgium newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, the 26-year-old had already agreed a five-year deal to join Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side. However, the club’s failure to agree a deal with the Magpies forced them to sign Thomas Didillon.

The goalkeeper has now returned to his parent club where is currently training with Rafael Benitez’s men. However, Sels has a reason to be happy as he is expected to leave the Tyneside club this summer.

HLN claims Strasbourg are interested in signing the Newcastle custodian. He has a ‘personal agreement’ for four years with the Ligue 1 outfit. They will make a ‘serious financial effort’ to secure the player’s signature.

So far, no deal has been agreed between the two clubs. However, the talks are progressing in the ‘right direction’ and Strasbourg are expected to pay €5m to the Premier League club in signing their stopper.
