AC Milan are favouring Tottenham Hotspur’s Emerson Royal over Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier to strengthen the right-back position in the summer window, according to ASRomaLive.it.

The Serie A side have been working to try and secure a deal for the Tottenham defender for the past few weeks.

Two days ago, Corriere dello Sport said the 25-year-old Brazilian is keen to leave Spurs for Milan and is ready to lower his wages.

On Thursday, journalist Matteo Moretto stated Newcastle have contacted Milan for Malick Thiaw, and discussed Trippier at the same time.

ASRomaLive.it now state the Magpies have proposed the England international to Milan, to carry out a swap deal involving Thiaw or Fikayo Tomori. However, Milan are focusing on Emerson and have been negotiating with Tottenham to find an agreement.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have also proposed the 33-year-old defender to Roma. The Tyneside club are looking to sell Trippier to help balance their books, and the report claims they value him at €6-8m.

The Englishman managed a goal and 11 assists from 42 games for Newcastle last season. ASRomaLive.it suggest his age might be a concern for Roma.
