Over the past week or so, there have been whispers that Newcastle United are interested in Carles Pérez.
The winger, currently at AS Roma, is one of the players the Serie A side are looking to offload if possible, and the Magpies were reported to have a desire to bring him to St James’ Park.
Talks took place, with Il Tempo hinting that an offer was made, or at the very least discussed, over the weekend by Newcastle, as they state the Premier League side ‘would pay between €12-14m’ to have him in their squad.
The club are clearly trying to give Steve Bruce some extra manpower to ensure a fight against relegation doesn’t take place, but Pérez might need some extra convincing.
That’s because Il Tempo follow their information up by explaining the Spaniard is, however, ‘destined to remain’ in Italy with Roma.
Why that is isn’t explained, but it’s either the idea of playing for Newcastle doesn’t tickle his fancy, or José Mourinho is more than happy to have him in his squad.
