A Newcastle United official was in attendance to watch FC Porto’s 3-0 win over Sporting at the Estádio do Dragão on Saturday. The clash between the two sides in one of the most important fixtures in the Primeira Liga.
The hosts won the tie 3-0 and two of their goals came after Sporting’s Pedro Porro was given a red card in the 75th minute.
Evanilson netted first in the 42nd minute before two penalties from Mateus Uribe [77′] and Galeno [86′] helped Porto seal three points.
According to A Bola, the Newcastle official was in attendance to watch one of the key fixtures in Portugal.
At the end of June, reports from Brazil said the Magpies failed to sign the Dragons winger, Pepê. He was named as a target for the Premier League side after they were linked with Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa. The duo started yesterday, with Gabriel Veron replacing Pepê in the 87th minute.
A month ago, Correio da Manhã explained Sporting had rejected Newcastle’s €33m bid for Gonçalo Inácio. He has a €45m release clause. The Lions played three at the back and Inácio started the tie for the visitors.
