Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Matt Targett arrived at Newcastle United in January and the trio’s addition has helped the Premier League bolster their defence.
The former two joined the Tyneside club on permanent deals, while Targett was signed on a loan deal from Aston Villa. Despite making these signings, the Magpies still want to further strengthen their back line in the summer.
Lille star Sven Botman continues to be in the Premier League side’s target list, but they have also looked at alternatives, such as Andreas Christensen.
That’s according to FcInterNews, who state Newcastle are one of the clubs to have had meetings with the Denmark international’s camp.
It’s even claimed Eddie Howe’s side offered the Chelsea player a four-year, ‘economically improved’ deal.
His current deal with the Blues runs down in June and a failure from them to tie the centre-back to a new deal will see him leave Stamford Bridge as a free agent in the summer.
Despite Newcastle’s proposal, Christensen does not favour a move to St James’ Park.
That’s because he ‘wants a club with currently superior technical possibilities’ than the Magpies.
