On Wednesday, SportBild reported Newcastle United are getting serious about signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby in the summer.
It was also stated the Magpies wanted the 23-year-old in January but the Bundesliga side refused to let go of him.
Newcastle are not alone as Paris Saint-Germain are also chasing the winger, according to L’Equipe.
PSG advisor Luis Campos had talks with the France international’s camp in January and has maintained contact with them since then. The attacker’s name is included in the Ligue 1 side’s shortlist, along with two other players.
With regards to Newcastle, the report states they have never lost sight of Diaby. In fact, the ‘representatives of the Saudi project’ have been courting him since 2021.
This would indicate Eddie Howe’s side are determined to get the deal over the line, and an offer from them is also expected.
It’s claimed the Tyneside club side qualifying for the Champions League next season ‘will result in an offer’ for Diaby in the summer.
Newcastle are currently third in the table with 65 points, three points ahead of fifth placed Liverpool, with a game in hand.
Diaby has 14 goals and 11 assists from 43 games this season.
