As the takeover at Newcastle United continues being one of the main subjects in the sport media, Tutto Mercato Web on Monday featured an interview with someone who they thought could enlighten an audience on what may happen at the club.
They chose Roberto de Fanti, an agent and intermediary who’s been living in England for some time, who’s described as ‘one of the most profound connoisseurs of the market and the dynamics of British football’.
So to escape the repetitive talk about potential signings, he spoke more about the process which could take Newcastle United to the top. He chose Manchester City as a good example of how things should happen slowly for the Magpies as well.
“Now that, as new owners, they will have to take compatible but important players,” de Fanti told Tutto Mercato Web.
“Watch out, though: the big City has been built over the years. And Newcastle is not London.”
“Amanda Staveley, one of the heads of the operation and now holder of a minority stake in the club, said it will take four years to go to the Champions League. This is the time it took for Manchester City: the first name they took to the Citizens was Robinho, for example, but then they slowly added pieces. I believe that the Magpies will create a lot of value in these years.”
Tutto Mercato Web points out that Fanti worked at Sunderland, and despite saying good things about that area, he still claims that the Magpies will need to work hard to convince stars to move there.
“It’s a beautiful city, I lived there when I was at Sunderland. Maybe the ownership will have to spend a ‘plus’ to get the players to go, but it won’t be a problem for the Saudis.”
