Since being presented as Newcastle United’s big signing of the transfer window, Joelinton has been speaking a lot to the Brazilian media.

Not long ago, we covered one of his chats with Lance, where he admitted that despite hearing a lot about Alan Shearer in his arrival at the club, he’d never really seen him play, not even in videos.

Now we hope Joelinton has watched a bit of Shearer on Youtube, because according to the 22-year-old, he received a message from the Magpies legend.

Speaking to Fox Sports this week, the player has talked about the pressure of playing in the centre-forward position at the club.

“I know about these responsibilities, but it is something that eventually dissolves”, Joelinton told Fox Sports. “And about Alan Shearer, it’s going to be an honor to be able to wear the same shirt the club’s biggest idol wore. He texted me wishing me good luck, and I will seek to keep the tradition of goals from the number nine shirt”.

Asked if he knows something about the history of Newcastle United, Joelinton not only talked about it, but also revealed there was a bid for him to join the club back in January, so he’s been hearing about the Magpies for a while now.

“I know it’s a multi-champion club with a history of winning in England. There was a proposal earlier this year, but Hoffenheim wanted to count on me for the second half of the season. Now it has come true. I hope I can mark my name in the club’s history and that we can achieve great things together.”

The player has also talked about the reception he’s got from the fans: “You can see the fans are very fanatical for the team. And that’s good. Since I arrived I could feel the affection and respect of the fans, and they will be fundamental for us to go far in competitions. I will seek to return this on the pitch by scoring goals and helping the team to come out with the victories”.
