For a while now, Radu Dragusin has been holding off signing a new contract with Juventus.

The Romanian defender’s deal with the Serie A champions is set to expire in the summer, with efforts made around Europe and in Turin to get him to put pen to paper.

Newcastle United have been one of those, with it once reported that Steve Bruce had personally requested the deal, but it appears Dragusin will remain in Italy.

At least, that’s what Calciomercato.it are reporting on Tuesday, explaining talks have been underway for a new five-year contract over the past month.

Despite the likes of Newcastle and RB Leipzig circling, ‘the decisive summit’ between Juventus and the player ‘will take place next week’, allowing everyone to ‘close a speech that has been going on for some time’.

It’s made clear that barring a ‘sensational twist’ in the tale, Newcastle will miss out on the centre-back as Juventus ‘lock Dragusin away’, in turn getting rid of the ‘sirens arriving from Italy and abroad’.
