Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that Newcastle had taken big steps towards signing Benoit Badiashile from AS Monaco over the weekend.
Meetings had taken place between the two clubs regarding a potential €40m, which was all reported by L’Equipe.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, the player left the game against Nantes on Sunday injured, and there are now doubts about whether or not the deal will take place.
A lot could depend on the extent of his injury, but early reports from France believe he might be out until the beginning of March.
RMC Sport have similar information to their counterparts, and back up the claims of meetings between Newcastle and AS Monaco.
They explain the St James’ Park club had been ‘in discussions for a few days’ with the principality club, who were ‘attentive’ to see ‘how much’ the Premier League side could offer.
In fact, ‘the first exchange were judged productive’ and an ‘important offer being prepared was expected to be sent to Monaco’.
That’s when it’s pointed out ‘the Frenchman’s injury could have consequences on the dealings’.
We’ll have to wait and see, but that’s two very big French outlets claiming this, so there’s definitely something in it.
