Newcastle United and Manchester City have reportedly shown interest in signing Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga in the summer.

The 21-year-old has a €40m release clause and both the Magpies and Pep Guardiola’s side have ‘expressed their intention to pay’ the clause.

That’s according to CalcioNapoli24, who state Newcastle and Manchester City’s desire to bring the midfielder to England makes it almost impossible for Napoli to secure his services.

The player’s preference was to join Real Madrid, who would have gladly taken him had they missed out on Jude Bellingham. The latter has agreed to join Los Blancos and the Spain U21 international has now ‘decided to continue’ his career in the Premier League.

According to the report, both Newcastle and Manchester City would like to add Veiga to their squads in the summer and this makes it difficult for the Serie A winners to carry out his signing. The report even states the Celta star is ‘one step away’ from the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s side and the FA Cup winners are ‘ready to pay’ the fee needed to sign Veiga, which makes things difficult for Napoli.
