Arsenal’s Cédric Soares is a summer transfer target for Newcastle United, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

Operating as the right-back under Mikel Arteta’s orders, the Portugal international has made 21 appearances in all competitions. The 30-year-old, however, can also operate on the left hand side of the back four.

The versatile fullback has a contract with north London club is until 2024, but the report explains he ‘will leave Arsenal at the end of the season’. Newcastle United are among the clubs looking at the player.

It’s claimed Eddie Howe’s side have identified the former Southampton man as a target mainly because of his ‘flexibility’ to operate in multiple positions. That’s all TMW mention about the Tyneside club.

Cédric Soares, who came up through the ranks of Sporting’s youth system and played for their first team, has an opportunity to return to his country. However, it is not to rejoin Sporting, but a chance to sign for FC Porto.

According to TMW, Porto have presented a proposal of less than €5m to Arsenal to sign Arteta’s man.

Therefore, should Newcastle have any intention of getting ahead of the Portuguese club, they would have to make an improved offer.
