Newcastle United still have Victor Osimhen in their sights for the next window after reportedly failing to sign the Napoli star in the winter market.
Earlier this month, Sky Italia journalist Mario Giunta stated the Magpies are expected to return for the striker in the summer. On March 21st, we covered claims made by Corriere dello Sport that Eddie Howe’s side have ‘unleashed’ to sign the 23-year-old.
The Tyneside club’s interest in the Nigeria international is discussed by Napoli Piu. They say Newcastle ‘like’ the player ‘very much’ and are ‘very likely’ to make a new offer for him after this season.
The website also relays comments made by journalist Enzo Bucchioni, on the former Lille star’s future at the Naples club beyond this season. He is of the belief Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis will offload Osimhen, if there is a tempting offer.
“Osimhen? Player with unique characteristics, before he opened the spaces and now, he is on his own,” Bucchioni told Radio Marte’s program, Marte Sport Live.
“He scores with continuity; it is a pity that he is not in Bergamo but Napoli have shown during his absence that they have other solutions. If an offer from abroad of non-refusable dimensions arrives, I would not be surprised with a sale.
“We are here to ask ourselves what Napoli would have been without injuries. The absence of Osimhen in particular was decisive because he is compelling.”
Osimhen has 15 goals and four assists to his name from 25 matches in all competitions this season, with the Newcastle missing a chunk of matches due a broken cheekbone.
