Newcastle United are keen on a deal for AC Milan’s Franck Kessié as they look to ‘revolutionise’ their squad this summer.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say the Magpies want to build their team around the Ivorian midfielder.
Kessié is in the third year of his time with Milan following a big move from Atalanta, but there’s long been the feeling the club will sell him to raise funds.
That’s led to speculation about a departure for the last year, with him heavily linked to the Premier League in the previous summer transfer window.
He ended up staying in Italy, but Tuttosport report that his future remains in the air and there is still interest from the Premier League.
The newspaper explains that Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso remains a fan after working with him in Milan and is keen on a move, but a proposed swap deal with Arkadiusz Milik has fallen by the wayside.
As such, attention has now turned to the Premier League with it felt the style of football in England best suits Kessié’s ‘characteristics’.
Newcastle are ‘ready to move’ for his signature as they look to revolutionise their squad with a big summer transfer window.
Their plan is to ‘start a new project’, and that would involve ‘focusing’ the team around Kessié should he arrive at St James Park.
Any potential move to Newcastle, however, is dependant on incoming AC Milan manager Ralf Rangnick.
He will provide the ‘decisive opinion’ on the midfielder’s future and decide whether he will be staying at Milan to play a role under him or be moving on.
Until that happens, Kessié finds himself at a ‘crossroads’ until Milan, and their new boss, make a decision on what to do with him, with Newcastle seemingly ready to pounce should they elect to sell.
