Newcastle United are continuing to monitor PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko, but Arsenal and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on him.
That’s according to Het Belang van Limburg, who report that the Premier League’s ‘major powers’ still like the 21-year-old.
The newspaper reports that after progressing ‘like a comet’ last year, this season has proven to be more of a difficult one for the Belgian youngster.
He’s only manage six goals and two assists in 20 games to date but that has not stopped the top club from keeping an eye on him. Newcastle have continued to monitor his progress closely while Arsenal and Liverpool have him on their radar also.
Last summer, Bakayoko indicated he would only leave the Dutch side if a ‘real big club’ came along and technical director Marcel Brands wants at least €50m to sanction a sale for the player, whose contract runs until 2026.
Whether Newcastle, Arsenal or Liverpool would pay such a fee would make sense. The Magpies have been increasingly linked with a move in recent weeks, though, with it claimed he was ‘very close’ to agreeing a move to St James Park.
Arsenal may also be on the hunt for a replacement for Bukayo Saka while Liverpool may have to find a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
It means a move would make sense for all three club, at least on paper, and it seems they’re all keeping an eye on him ahead of January.
