One of the gaps that Eddie Howe appears to want to plug at Newcastle United going forward, other than a new striker, is the one in goal.

While Martin Dubravka has been the regular feature between the sticks at St James’ Park this season, he is 33 years of age and will certainly need replacing sooner rather than later.

Then comes the question as to whether he’s good enough to be the man to help take Newcastle to new heights following their rich takeover from the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

That’s why names such as Kepa Arrizabalaga have been pushed towards the Magpies over the past few weeks, but another is now creeping up: Thomas Strakosha.

The Lazio goalkeeper appears to want to try something new, and Il Messaggero mention his future on Wednesday.

They explain he is edging ‘further and further away’ from the Serie A side, and his ‘dream is to play in the Premier League’.

This is something he could make happen, because the outlet claim Newcastle are ‘on him’, alongside Watford.

While Torino also appear to have come forward, that’s seen as a ‘difficult option’ for now, meaning the Magpies may have the advantage here, especially if their Premier League rivals in this battle get relegated as well.

The door is wide open for them, and with his contract expiring in the summer, he’d also be a free agent, which is always nice, regardless of how rich you are.
