Newcastle United are set to rival AC Milan in the chase for Lille star Jonathan David.
The striker managed 26 goals and four assists last season and has extended his fine form into this season by scoring seven goals and registering two assists.
David has long been on the Serie A side’s radar and is now their priority target to bolster their attack. Newcastle have joined the transfer race to sign the 23-year-old and this has become the ‘biggest problem’ for Milan.
That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say the Magpies are posing as an ‘obstacle’ for the Rossoneri.
It’s said Eddie Howe’s side have tested the waters to understand the conditions needed to take the frontman from the Ligue 1 side.
The Canada international’s deal lasts until 2025 and the report explains that the French club’s request has never been less than €35m. Stefano Pioli’s side deem this figure to be high and the potential deal is made even more difficult with Newcastle’s inclusion.
TMW state it’s ‘practically impossible’ for Milan to compete with the Premier League side financially, in the battle to secure David’s services.
Newcastle currently have Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson as the two strikers and David will have to compete with the duo, if he were to join them in January.
