Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United are said to be the latest club to join the race for Ludogorets winger Jonathan Cafu. According to Goal, the Magpies and Leicester City are the two English sides interested in him for now, followed by Porto and Lyon.
The report claims that Ludogorets would be ‘dreaming’ of getting up to €12m for the player, but they could make this price drop to €8m in order to find a deal.
Goal also reveals that Jonathan Cafu has recently managed to get a Bulgarian passport, which should mean he would have no trouble being bought Newcastle United or any other English club.
The rumours linking Cafu to England have been published for a few months now. Last week, we were able to confirm that his staff held meetings with Leicester City, Everton and West Ham. There was the intention to hear as many offers as possible, but at that stage Newcastle United weren’t mentioned.
With eleven goals and seven assists, the 25-year-old has been standing out for Ludogorets this season. The player was vital for the club during the Champions League group stage, especially for getting a goal and an assist against Arsenal.
Benitez interest in the player would be no surprise and Newcastle United should have a reasonable chance of getting him to St James’ Park should they achieve promotion.
