Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias this week reports Newcastle United’s pursuit for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
According to the outlet, the Magpies have the player ‘very well referenced’ and ‘can really advance for the signing’ this summer.
The report, of course, has a lot of information about how rich Newcastle United are, detailing the investment they made in the January window and claiming they’re now coming for more.
And a decent amount of money will indeed be necessary to sign Diogo Costa from Porto. The goalkeeper has a €60m release clause, and a deal could be done for a minimum of €40m.
Since the Dragons also have Agustin Marchesin in their squad, they’re not that worried about losing Costa, and could indeed negotiate his sale in case an attractive bid arrives.
Costa had big growth this season and was one of Porto’s important figures in their title-winning campaign. That’s why, as highlighted by Jornal de Notícias, Transfermarkt valued him at €10m last summer, and now raised the numbers to €25m. So the Dragons will certainly try to get every penny from Newcastle.
