Newcastle United are ‘interested’ in a loan deal for defender Malang Sarr but will have to convince his club to let him go before the end of the transfer window.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Eddie Howe’s side are one of four Premier League sides keen on his signature.

The website explains that with 11 days remaining in the transfer window, there are players whose futures are yet to be decided, and Sarr is one of them.

He’s barely featured under Thomas Tuchel this season but with a deal at Stamford Bridge until 2025 is more likely to leave on a loan deal than a permanent one should he move this month.

If that’s available, there are four clubs in the Premier League who ‘want him on loan’, and Newcastle are one of them.

They are desperately trying to secure a new centre-back this month but have faced frustration in their efforts to sign Sven Botman and Diego Carlos.

They may have now turned their attention to a cheaper alternative, with FM stating they are keen on a loan deal for 22-year-old Sarr.

Unfortunately, it seems Chelsea aren’t keen on letting him go. They believe the defender can ‘largely fill in’ at the back while his complete inoculation against COVID means he can also be useful in the event of a possible outbreak in the squad.

Newcastle have work to do to convince the Blues into a deal then, a situation that is becoming commonplace in their search for a new centre-back.
