A few days ago the local Valencia media had a good laugh about what they claimed was reported Newcastle interest in Alvaro Negredo. The former Manchester City striker, who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, is now back at Valencia and they’d rather he wasn’t.

Newcastle signing the player, with a price speculated of €15m, was said to be a dream for Valencia, who could then also get Negredo’s wages off their accounts. Such is the reporting about Negredo, one could be forgiven for thinking he’s completely useless, but it’s more a question of money for Valencia and their wage bill.

Super Deporte look again at the player’s situation on Thursday, and make it very clear that Marcelino, Valencia’s latest manager, doesn’t have Negredo in his plans. The striker is said to already be aware of this, and is clear that his future isn’t at Valencia.

If there was any truth in Rafael Benitez being interested, then Newcastle United could get themselves a reasonable deal. With the player having two years left on his Valencia contract, there may even be the chance of a season long loan, without too much risk.

Over to you, Rafa.
