After Manchester United were credited with an interest in Amadou Haidara, reports this week in England named Newcastle United as a new contender for the RB Leipzig player.
On Thursday, Bild stated the Magpies’ interest in the midfielder is ‘strong and concrete’. The Mali international is currently with the national team at the 2021 AFCON and claims made yesterday are relayed by another report from Bild.
It’s said the Tyneside club have a ‘great interest’ in the 23-year-old, but the Bundesliga side have ‘not (yet) received a specific request’ from Eddie Howe’s side.
Newcastle, who have the backing of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, have ‘plenty’ of money and can ‘double his salary’, if the former Red Bull Salzburg man decides to join the Premier League side.
Haidara has a €40m release clause, but the report states Leipzig would be ‘ready to talk now’, if there is an offer of around €20m. He is also a fan of the Premier League. These factors are in favour of a move to England.
Meanwhile, Howe’s side are currently in the relegation zone and could risk dropping to the Championship next season. This is the factor which doesn’t favour Haidara moving to St James’ Park in January.
