Back in the summer, Newcastle United were heavily linked to Braga youngster Roger Fernandes.

The winger hadn’t even made his first team debut at the time, as he was only 16, and it was still claimed the Magpies were about to make a bid for his signing.

It turns out that despite all the hype around Roger, he’s not been able to impress at Braga, and that may result in a great opportunity for Newcastle to come after him again.

Newspaper O Jogo today writes that the ‘bet’ made by the Portuguese club hasn’t worked out, as he’s been barely used in the first team, and Braga could even loan him abroad in January.

The outlet recalls the ‘echoes’ from the likes of Ajax, Newcastle and PSV in the summer, pointing out that the youngster still has a good market value, at €3.5m.

Since the Portuguese side aren’t finding much use for Roger, this could be a good opportunity for the Magpies to try some type of deal, as their efforts to land the player were widely reported in the summer.

Braga aren’t a club with a great financial position, so if Newcastle can convince them that it’s better to take some money now instead of waiting for the player’s evolution that may never happen, perhaps they’d rather guarantee that fee.
