It’s been a while since Newcastle United were first linked to Rennes striker Gaetan Laborde.
Back in December last year, it was claimed the Magpies had taken a ‘close interest’ in the player, even though that wasn’t followed by more news on that chase.
It turns out that today, Eddie Howe’s side is back being named in a list of clubs who would like to buy the 28-year-old in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Foot Mercato today writes that Newcastle United, Sevilla and ‘especially Lille’ have been eyeing the player ‘for several months’ and ‘could go on the offensive’.
The outlet says it’s still unclear whether these clubs will actually make a move before the end of the transfer window, but in case Rennes do have to engage in negotiations, they shall request between €20m and €25m to let him go.
Laborde scored a goal this weekend, which was his 18th in 45 appearances for his club.
With them not willing to let him go easily and Lille looking serious in the race, it seems Newcastle would need to make a strong and convincing effort to get him this summer.
