Newcastle United could face a battle with Spanish giants Real Madrid for midfielder Boubakary Soumaré this summer.
Sport explain that one of the priorities for Real boss Zinedine Zidane this summer is to strengthen the midfield and, alongside Paul Pogba has identified Eduardo Camavinga, Soumaré and a third, unnamed player.
Both players are highly-rated in Ligue 1 and subsequently have suitors lining up to take them away in the near future.
Soumaré was the subject of a bid from Newcastle in the January transfer window but turned the opportunity down, later admitting he wanted to join a bigger club.
Sport say he remains a target for Premier League clubs and that Newcastle have not ‘thrown in the towel’ yet. Lille, however, have not accepted any offers.
Madrid have not presented a bid as yet, but Zidane is said to have been following the midfielder for a long time and has received ‘very good reports’ about him.
While Newcastle haven’t given up, it’s extremely unlikely Soumaré will have changed his mind on the club since the January transfer window.
Nonetheless, Magpies fans will be encouraged by the fact the club are seemingly showing plenty of ambition in their transfer targets.
