With three goalkeepers already in the squad in Rob Elliott, Karl Darlow and Tim Krul, that Newcastle would be interested in another shot stopper doesn’t make all that much sense.

That is unless one of them is on his way out, and, out of the three, you would expect that to be the Dutchman, who spent last season on loan at AZ Alkmaar.

Why are we saying this? Because a report from Ouest-France claims that Rafa Benitez and co. are considering making a move for Angers SCO’s third-choice goalkeeper, Denis Petric.

Said to be close to Guingamp, the Slovenian is also attracting interest from both Newcastle and Bristol City, who have enquired about his situation.

The Ligue 1 side are said to be willing to let him go either on loan or for a permanent transfer, although how much for isn’t mentioned.

Making just nine league appearances last season, the 29-year-old has been spending time with the club’s reserves, after falling even further down the pecking order.
