When Stevan Jovetic was last in England, things didn’t exactly turn out as first expected.
Bought by Manchester City from Fiorentina in 2013 for upwards of £20m, the now 27-year-old eventually returned to Italy two years later with Inter, where he has tried to once again make a name for himself.
A loan spell at Sevilla last season helped, and now the Premier League have come calling again, with Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle keen on the 27-year-old’s services, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
Understandably, the prospect of a return to England hasn’t exactly filled him with joy, but it might become an option for him were he to be told he’s no future with his current club.
However, the Italian website state that Newcastle are pushing so much for a deal that the Geordies could send a delegation to Italy in the coming week to get a deal done.
Benitez has been desperate to bolster his attack this summer, clearly feeling the players at his disposal might not have enough in them to score enough goals to avoid a return to the Championship, and Jovetic appears to be an ideal candidate to do that.
Inter are said to be asking for around €14m for the Montenegrin, but, at this stage, the price probably doesn’t matter to the Spanish manager.
He just wants Newcastle to sign another striker.
