Sometimes, the best players come a bit out of nowhere, much like Ian Wright did, as the now Arsenal legend joined Crystal Palace at the age of 21 after spending time in Sunday League and semi-professional football.
It happens less often these days, but there are still times when a player, usually brought in on trial, impresses enough to get signed.
This is, it seems, what could be happening with Florent Indalecio, once of Saint-Etienne in France, at Newcastle United.
The 23-year-old, who was formed in the Ligue 1 club before being chucked out at 15 for behavioural issues, spent time in French amateur football and the Australian fifth tier and is currently on trial at St James’ Park, impressing enough to give the Magpies a headache.
This is what Actu Foot are reporting on Tuesday, claiming Indalecio has performed so well during training sessions and friendly games that Newcastle ‘decided to observe him longer than initially planned’.
It’s reached a stage where he’s ‘currently waiting for an answer regarding a potential professional contract’, but if that doesn’t work, ‘many clubs from League One have come asking for information in case the Magpies decide to move on’.
Either way, Indalecio looks like to stay in England, coming a long way from his nomadic times a few years ago at Andrézieux and Saint-Chamond.
