AC Milan signed Diego Laxalt from Genoa last summer and the left-back struggled for minutes in his debut campaign at the San Siro. He was restricted to just six starts in the league.

Following the arrival of Theo Hernández, the Uruguay international is pushed closer towards the exit door.

Calciomercato claims Newcastle United and West Ham United showed interest in him after the two Premier League clubs looked at signing the 26-year-old in the past two days.

It’s claimed the Magpies tried to push for a deal with the Serie A club, but the negotiation seemed uphill immediately.

That’s because the Tyneside club were not able to agree a fee with Milan for Laxalt.

In addition to this, Steve Bruce’s side also failed to work out the method of transfer – loan or permanent – to sign the player.

With Milan looking to offload Laxalt, they will have to look at other options as the transfer window has closed in England.
