Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes has been highlighted by several Portuguese outlets for the past couple of days, and there’s a very good reason for it. On Sunday, he scored the Lions’ away winner against Braga, which kept the Lisbon side on top of the league table.
Speaking of the 22-year-old today, newspaper Record talks a little about that goal, and then brings some information on the future of the Brazilian player, which is said to be ‘open’.
The outlet recalls that back in January, Matheus Nunes was wanted by Newcastle, who had an offer for him turned down. Now the Premier League side ‘continue attentive’ to his situation.
Record doesn’t explain Sporting’s plans for the midfielder, only claiming that he ‘can’t guarantee he’ll stay at Alvalade’.
It’s already been reported by the Portuguese media that Newcastle offered €10m for Matheus Nunes back in January. However, there’s a big difference between then and now, because Sporting used to own only 50% of his rights, and after spending €450k for the other half in February, they would now get the entire fee.
Since Nunes isn’t a regular starter at the club, that bid still sounds like a fair price for him. Record points out today that Bundesliga clubs are interested in his signing as well.
