Newcastle United are ‘close to agreeing’ a deal for Sassuolo left-back Rogério da Silva, according to reports from Brazil.
TNT Sports claims that the 24-year-old should join the Magpies ‘in the coming days, before the end of the current transfer window’.
It’s said Newcastle ‘should spend €15m’ on the signing, and even though he had offers from two other European clubs, he favoured the move to the St James’ Park side.
The Magpies had indeed been linked to Rogério in the past, but that happened a long time ago, in the summer of 2020, when reports from the Italian media claimed he was indeed close on making the move.
With Newcastle now once again looking for a full-back, we’ve been seeing in the past couple of days many stories about their chase for Atalanta’s Robin Gosens and Bayer Leverkusen’s Mitchel Bakker.
Now Rogério shows up as a surprising alternative, even for those who have been following the transfer market closely over the past month.
