Newcastle United are keen on Metz duo Pape Matar Sarr and Boubakar Kouyate after their performances in France this season.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the Magpies are one of several clubs keen on the pair after impressive campaigns for Metz.
18-year-old Sarr arrived at Metz from Génération Foot in September 2020 and has established himself in the heart of the midfield since, with 21 appearances in all competitions to his name so far.
That has caught many, including his manager, by surprise, with Frédéric Antonetti even admitting that he has been ‘stunned’ by the Senegalese youngster.
His displays haven’t gone unnoticed, and he is ‘highly sought after’ in England by Newcastle, as well as Chelsea and Everton.
There is also interest within France, with L’Equipe also stating that Nice are ready to offer €12m to take him this summer.
Teammate Kouyate, meanwhile, has also been at the club since last year after arriving in a £3.15m deal from Troyes in August.
He has ‘often impressed’ in his 25 appearances since, say the newspaper, and that has earned him attention from England too.
Newcastle are named as one of the three clubs ‘interested’ in the 24-year-old, while both Roma and Atalanta are also ‘eyeing him up’.
Now, there is no suggestion that the Magpies are ready to make a move as yet, but their interest is certainly there, and they are two names to keep an eye on as we get closer to the transfer window opening.
