The last we heard of Arkadiusz Milik and a potential move from Newcastle United was about a week ago.
The news came from Tuttosport, who claimed the Magpies had ‘initiated contact’ for the striker and ‘asked for information’.
Seemingly wanting a bit more firepower, Steve Bruce turned his attention to the Poland international, whose contract in the south of Italy is due to expire at the end of the current season.
That’s why Napoli have been trying so hard to get rid of him, with the option of moving him to AS Roma the easiest option.
Unfortunately for the Pole, that’s now fallen through, with Corriere dello Sport describing the transfer as having ‘evaporated’.
This is seen as the perfect opportunity for ‘the foreign scene to open up’ i.e. ‘Newcastle could be back in the running with a suitable offer’, having already come forward a few weeks ago, ‘ready to invest’ in Milik.
This is seen as a ‘plausible turnaround’ and could be what ‘puts everyone in agreement’.
We’ll have to wait and see on that one, but the door is now wide open for those in charge at Newcastle to waltz through and put an offer on the table (electronically, of course, because Covid).
