Newcastle United are one of the ‘sharks’ surrounding Sporting Club de Portugal defender Ousmane Diomande after scouting him last year.
That’s according to A Bola, who report that several sides in Europe were watching the defender last year as he impressed as the African Cup of Nations.
They ended up seeing little of him in that tournament and the second half of the season proved to be a difficult one for him in Portugal as well.
However, he’s back in the team now under Rui Borges and catching the eye once again as part of a central defensive pairing. That’s brought the clubs who were watching him last year back to the table and Newcastle are one of them.
They, like the others, appreciate that he can play in a two or a three at the ball and are now preparing to move for him.
Bayern Munich already expressed an interest in January and were one of the clubs watching him last year alongside Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester Citty, Arsenal, Liverpool and Juventus. All of them are expected to revive that interest in the coming months.
The Magpies may want to swoop in while they can then or potentially end up in a tug of war with Champions League clubs for the defender.
