Having a very good season with Saint-Etienne, Jordan Veretout is going to return to Aston Villa at some stage in the near future.
Whether the midfielder remains at Villa Park remains to be seen, but with the club remaining in the Championship, an exit strategy is probably being planned by his representatives, especially if he can return to France.
Loaned to the Ligue 1 side for the current campaign, Veretout has impressed enough to force Saint-Etienne into trying to make the deal permanent, but they aren’t the only French club interested in returning him to his home country on a permanent basis.
According to Mercato365 in France, Bordeaux are also keen on the Aston Villa loanee’s services, with manager Jocelyn Gourvennec highlighting the former Nantes star as a potential summer target.
We’ve already covered in detail the problems French clubs are likely to face in trying to repatriate the 25-year-old, most of them financial, and Dr Tony Xia isn’t expected to let him go for cheap considering how much Aston Villa paid for him in the first place.
However, If Bordeaux were to sell either Diego Rolan or Adam Ounas to a Premier League side, with more than a handful interested, the funds to help bring in Veretout could suddenly become available.
Far more believable than Saint-Etienne, with a lack of sellable options in their squad, managing to put €10m together to convince Steve Bruce and co., that’s for sure.
