Earlier today, we’ve covered the report from O Jogo which claimed that Paulo Fonseca was in negotiations to be the next Everton manager.
Their article was pretty confusing, since they only added a line to a previous story, where Fonseca’s signing was being criticised by former Everton defender Alan Stubbs.
And since Portuguese newspaper A Bola claimed that the Toffees’ offer had been turned down, it sounded like the talks were over.
But O Jogo came up with a new story now, this time saying that the negotiations are ‘very advanced’, and the manager is ‘close to joining English football’.
They claim the official announcement ‘could be made soon’, even though the English press is still pointing out other names such as Sam Allardyce and Martin O’Neill.
According to that previous report from A Bola, Everton are offering Fonseca a contract until 2020, with a ‘very good salary’ for the manager.
Fonseca has a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk until the end of the season, so the Toffees must agree with the Ukrainian club as well.
It must be noted that the Portuguese press are rarely out-rumoured and will happily take things up a notch or two. Over in Ukraine, there’s still no insinuation Everton are close to a deal or Fonseca is pushing to leave.
