Drama, drama, and more drama.
That’s what José Mourinho’s appointment at Tottenham has done, and not just on this side of the Channel.
No, the Portuguese manager has already managed to infuriate Christophe Galtier at Lille by poaching two of his coaches, Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos.
The former will become Mourinho’s assistant, while the latter, a childhood friend, will also be joining the coach’s backroom staff, but their exits have been deemed untimely, even if they were always going to happen.
RMC Sport have an article on the matter, claiming that both Sacramento and Santos had informed Lille ‘a few weeks ago’ they would be following José Mourinho in his next endeavour, but the expectation at the Ligue 1 club would they would see out the season in the north of France.
That went out the window, however, when the former Manchester United manager was appointed as the new Tottenham head coach, and the pair went straight to the board to tell them they intended to join him in north London.
A member of the Lille dressing room said: “The rumour within the group was they’d join Mourinho at the end of the season, and wasn’t for Joao to leave so quickly. I don’t even think Joao himself knew that Mourinho would get a new job so quickly.”
It’s said the two coaches ‘couldn’t refuse this offer’, as they will be earning more than €500k/year.
Can you blame them?
