Niklas Sule’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the current season, and it’s been known for a while that he’s likely to leave the German club.

Bild report the central defender was ’emotional’ when he saw the renewal offer Bayern were prepared to give him, and not in a good way.

Sule felt undervalued, and Bild journalist Christian Falk is quoted as saying: “The basic salary is said to have been less than ten million. And of course that’s not quite adequate compared to what, for example, a Christensen – who plays for Chelsea – who Bayern want to get, is offered. This creates unnecessary unrest. Niklas Sule can now take the step abroad.”

That next step could be Stamford Bridge, in a possible scenario which would see Andreas Christensen move to Bayern as a free agent, and Sule go to Chelsea on the same basis.

Bild also have comments from the German international’s agent, with Volker Struth quoted as saying: “The new club is set! Niklas Sule made a decision a short time ago.

“It’s about the footballer playing in the right place at the right time. Sule will earn good money anywhere. He will definitely also play in the Champions League and if you get a player like Sule, it will cost you a lot of money.”

The German newspaper believe that those comments, about playing in the Champions League, would drop a hint over a move to Chelsea, given Thomas Tuchel’s side are well placed to qualify for the competition.

They point out that Chelsea and Barcelona have been the ‘hot candidates’ for the player recently, and the Blaugrana aren’t as secure in their Champions League future as the Blues.
