It seems Wolverhampton Wanderers may be losing the race for America defender Edson Alvarez.

Although there wasn’t anything relevant coming from the Mexican media today, the news from the Netherlands says the player could be moving to the Eredivisie.

Outlet VI reports that Alvarez has chosen Ajax over PSV and Wolves, and some ‘white smoke’ could be coming out soon.

It’s claimed that Ajax had to wait a little due to competition for the defender, but now everything between them and America has been ‘going well’, so the move should be made official soon. The interest has been confirmed by club director Marc Overmars as well.

It’s still interesting how Mexican newspaper Record had a front page about Wolverhampton’s efforts to sign the player, saying the transfer was close, and then completely ignored the chase.

However, they’ve also said that Alvarez would fancy a move to Ajax, where he could develop better, and only then take the bigger challenge of playing in the Premier League. Even their journalists were saying this would be the best move for him.

Alvarez has a release clause of €15m, and that’s what Ajax should be paying for his transfer.
