Mike Verweij is one of the closest journalists to Ajax in the Dutch media, usually knowing what’s going on around the club.
He takes part in a weekly podcast, for De Telegraaf newspaper, which he also writes for, and this week has brought some good transfer news for followers of the Eredivisie side.
Dutch website Soccer News have picked up the claims, and Verweij says Ajax are set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Kamaldeen Sulemana.
The 19-year-old attacker currently plays for FC Nordsjælland, and has been linked with both Ajax and Manchester United repeatedly, with some claims of Liverpool also being interested in the youngster.
Verweij has explained Ajax made an effort to talk the demands of the player’s agents down, and is quoted as saying: “That was a bit too much. Agents thought they were selling to Real Madrid or Manchester United.”
Sulemana will almost certainly have an easier route to the first team at Ajax than he would have found at Old Trafford, and the Dutch club’s plan will be to develop him before a potential sale in the future.
