For more than a week the Spanish media have reported that Rafa Mir is on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid.
The striker impressed whilst on loan from Wolves at Huesca last season, and won more Spanish fans during the Olympics. As far as the earlier reports had it, Mir had agreed terms with Atletico a while ago and it was just a case of waiting for the end of the Olympics so he could complete a move to Diego Simeone’s club.
A transfer fee had initially been put at around €10m, with later claims saying Wolves were trying to push things as high as €15m.
Now it appears the whole thing is on the verge of collapsing.
Cope radio, one of the major sources of breaking transfer news in Spain, reports talks between Wolves and Atletico are ‘paralysed’. The Premier League club are said to have rejected an offer from Los Rojiblancos, and have now decided they want to keep the player.
Mir is said to be travelling to England today to try and ‘fix’ the situation.
It’s unclear whether Wolves truly want Mir in their squad for the coming season, or if this is a stance to force Atletico higher.
