Earlier this week, we covered a surprise claim from Brazil which stated Flamengo made contact to sign Chelsea’s João Félix on loan in the summer window. It was also stated Benfica are also interested in the attacking midfielder.
Globo Esporte back up that there were talks between the Brazilian club and the 25-year-old and then provide the latest.
Flamengo are looking to add an attacking midfielder and a winger to their squad. This is the reason they would have looked at the Chelsea player but are unlikely to be successful.
After making contact for Félix, the talks didn’t advance for two key reasons. The former Benfica man’s current salary is deemed too high by the South American club.
In addition to this, the report states the Portugal international has offers from European clubs, without mentioning their details. These factors prevent Flamengo from making an approach for the Chelsea man and therefore, the ‘negotiations have been ruled out’.
Félix joined the Blues on a permanent transfer last summer and Enzo Maresca’s side sent him on loan to AC Milan in the winter market. His future needs to be resolved when he returns to Stamford Bridge after this season.
