Last season, Southampton’s Paul Onuachu was on loan at Trabzonspor and managed 17 goals and four assists from 25 games.
The striker returned to St Mary’s and scored four goals and registered an assist from 22 Premier League games this season.
Southampton have been relegated, and the Turkish club want to offer the 30-year-old an escape route in the summer window.
That’s according to Africa Foot, who state Trabzonspor have made him the priority target for next season. They are aiming to sign him permanently and already started contacts to secure his services.
Trabzonspor offered €7m last summer but it was €3m short of the English club’s request. Onuachu has a contract until 2026, and the report states Southampton have suspended the renewal until they appoint a new permanent manager.
Meanwhile, Southampton have set at €10m price tag, which is currently an obstacle for his former club.
The Nigeria international is represented by CMG Sports and a source close to the agency states Trabzonspor are in ongoing negotiations with both the player and the Saints.
‘Trabzonspor has made him their priority for the summer, and negotiations are ongoing, both with the player and with Southampton. They definitely wanted him last summer, but their €7m fee didn’t match the €10m request. They are now determined to finalise the deal before the end of the season,’ a source from CMG Sports said.
Southampton could be forced to lower their request considering Onuachu’s contract expires in 2026.
