For the past week, several reports from the English press have been claiming that Benfica are reportedly interested in Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson.
Well, over in Portugal, claims suggest the Eagles might go for the player as a replacement for Ruben Dias, who could be leaving for Manchester United in the summer.
Newspaper A Bola brings a big report about it today, saying Dias could indeed represent a cheap option for the Red Devils’ transfer window.
Regarding Jansson, they do acknowledge that he could turn out to be a good name for the Eagles, but they also claim that there’s nothing going on for now.
A Bola says Benfica have the Swedish international ‘well referenced’, but ‘with no negotiation advancements’ so far.
It’s also made very clear that something could only happen in case Ruben Dias’ departure goes through.
Benfica would be looking to make €60m with Dias’ sale, so in this scenario, they would likely have no problem in meeting Leeds United’s demands for Jansson, whatever they might be.
