Wednesday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports ‘negotiations continued last night’ for Pablo Mari’s move to Monza, and the Arsenal player is on the verge of leaving London for the Serie A side.
Monza finished fourth last season in Serie B and were promoted to the top flight via play-offs. If they want to stay at the top level then they’re going to need to improve, and have already made eleven signings.
Mari would be the twelfth, and Gazzetta say that if no obstacles are thrown up during the final negotiations then the defender could even become a Monza player today.
The move will probably be on a loan basis, with Arsenal and Monza now discussing any possible purchase option for next summer. There’s an alternative plan, in that Mari would be given a contract beyond 2024, on a permanent transfer, so that Monza could give him longer term security but with lower wages than he currently receives with the Gunners.
That all sounds more complicated to finalise than Gazzetta suggest, so it remains to be seen how quickly this can all be completed.
