‘Negotiations’ continue between SD Huesca and Leeds United over the transfer of Samu Saiz, report Spanish newspaper AS in their Wednesday edition.
It’s also stated that Leeds United’s offer for the player is €3.5m, which has been Huesca’s asking price since before Leeds even approached them. There’s been some doubt about whether the offer from Elland Road is this high, given that Huesca would have been minded to accept, but there is an offer of some kind.
A few days ago Huesca director Jose Luis Ortas told Cope: “There is a significant offer from Leeds United for Samu Saiz but it’s not certain that he goes there, there are more offers.”
Despite AS’ claim, it’s possible Leeds United’s offer falls just below the €3.5m, alternatively Huesca may have changed all their plans and now be demanding more money. That’s perhaps unlikely because the player and his agents would have been expected to snap back in such a scenario.
Huesca have to pay half the fee to Saiz’s previous club Atletico Madrid, but, again, this shouldn’t be a problem as that’s been known throughout and the Segunda side were in the exact situation when negotiating with Eibar.
The likeliest scenario is that Leeds’ offer isn’t quite there yet, or it is and the player is giving a little more time to see what else comes in. If a La Liga club matches the transfer fee for Huesca, and gets close to what Leeds are offering on wages, then Saiz may find that more attractive.
But time is running out and there needs to be a decision soon. Saiz may well be on holiday now, but returning for preseason training with Huesca doesn’t look a necessary step.
